A message from Pastor David Welch:

Dear Bear Creek Family,

I want to let you know that we are adjusting our worship gatherings this Sunday, March 15.

We have continued to closely monitor the developments around the outbreak of the coronavirus in our region. We have been listening closely to updates from our county health officials and county commissioners. And we’ve sought counsel from other leaders in our community and from within our fellowship.

It’s important to realize that the coronavirus is now a pandemic. Health officials now say it is a foregone conclusion that a lot of people in our communities will contract the virus. After watching the spread in China, Italy, and other places, they now have the modeling to predict its potential spread in the U.S.

Therefore, some significant measures must be taken in communities to protect the health of those most vulnerable. Even though most who contract the virus will have mild to moderate symptoms, there are some whose lives will be put in danger.

In the greater Houston area, there are only 18 confirmed cases of the coronavirus (as of this update). Therefore, we have an opportunity as a community to prevent its spread, as has happened in other places. And we have the opportunity to protect those most vulnerable in our community.

County leaders have asked that all gatherings of more than 250 be canceled or postponed. Out of a biblical desire to respect the leadership of our local government leaders (Romans 13, 1 Timothy 2), and from a desire to protect those in our community who are most vulnerable – we will move our worship services this Sunday, March 15, to online services only.  We’re not meeting at the building, but I am calling on all of us to gather online at 9:30 a.m. or 11:00 a.m. and worship together as a faith family.

Finally, this virus outbreak is causing a level of uncertainty and fear all around us. But, as followers of Christ, we do not have to fear this.

Here are the promises we have:

“The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble, and He knows those who take refuge in Him” (Nahum 1:7).

“The Name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous runs into it and is safe” (Proverbs 18:10).

We have experienced over and over God’s faithfulness and protection in “days of trouble” before. He was with us then; He is with us now. We can absolutely trust what God will do in us -- in the days ahead.

In Christ,

Pastor David
