“Behold, the days are coming,” declares the LORD, “When I will raise up for David a righteous Branch; and He will reign as king and act wisely and do justice and righteousness in the land. In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will live securely; and this is His name by which He will be called, ‘The LORD Our Righteousness.’”
What a beautiful prophecy and proclamation concerning Jesus the coming Messiah, which will occur during His Millennial reign. His Kingship through the line of David is emphasized here. He will rule with wisdom. He will not rule corruptly as many of His predecessors had done, but rather He will rule rightly and justly and exemplify perfection in every aspect of His rule and reign. Think of the joy that will result from living under a King, who reigns in this manner. Though this prophecy applies primarily to Israel in the latter days when the divided kingdom of Judah and Israel will be brought back together as one nation to be ruled by King Jesus, it does have a spiritual application for us today. This is primarily found in the phrase, “The LORD our righteousness.”
Once we place our faith and trust in Jesus, His righteousness is imputed to us. Though our own righteousness is as filthy rags, His righteousness that is imputed to us is perfect just as He is perfect. Our own sinfulness is replaced by Jesus’ own sinless perfection. This ought to bring us tremendous joy, which should create within us a heart that is filled with thanks-giving, and should then lead us to a life of thanks-living! Do you possess this kind of JOY that comes from KNOWING Jesus? Is your heart filled with THANKS-GIVING, and is THANKS-LIVING a resulting effect? Only KNOWING Jesus can give you this kind of joyful life. Thank Him now, if you are experiencing this kind of life. If you have never placed your faith and trust in Jesus, ask Him to save you now, and He will. Then this kind of life can be yours!
Lord, thank you for the work of Christ on the cross. Convict me of my sin and draw me to yourself daily.
