I Believe (part 4): Enoch’s Faith Teaches Us to Walk in Trusting Faith, Pastor David Welch

5 “By faith Enoch was taken up so that he would not see death; and he was not found because God took him up; for he obtained the witness that before his being taken up he was pleasing to God. 6 And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.”

Hebrews 11:5-6 (NASB1995)

21 “Enoch lived sixty-five years, and became the father of Methuselah. 22 Then Enoch walked with God three hundred years after he became the father of Methuselah, and he had other sons and daughters. 23 So all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years. 24 Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.”

Genesis 5:21-24 (NASB1995)

The Idea:

Here’s what made Enoch extraordinary. Consistency. That’s it.

Not bravery and courage. Not incredible giftedness or genius.

He was approved and pleasing to God – by walking in trusting faith.

What Enoch’s Faith Teaches

I. His Faith Teaches Us to Walk With God

“Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.”

Genesis 5:24 (NASB1995)

II. His Faith Teaches Us to Walk Expectantly

“Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.”

Genesis 5:24 (NASB1995)

“By faith Enoch was taken up so that he would not see death; and he was not found because God took him up”

Hebrews 11:5 (NASB1995)

16 “For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

17 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.

18 Therefore comfort one another with these words”

To Live Expectantly:

“For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; “

Philippians 3:20 (NASB1995)

“ [we are] … awaiting eagerly the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, “

“... keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life.”

Jude 21 (NASB1995)

III. His Faith Teaches Us to Walk to the Reward.

“And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.”

Hebrews 11:6 (NASB1995)

“... knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.”

Colossians 3:24 (NASB1995)
