Becoming (part 4): The Priorities that Produce Joy, Pastor David Welch

October 30, 2022

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

1 Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things again is no trouble to me, and it is a safeguard for you.
3 for we are the [ones], who worship in the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh,

The Idea:

You can’t get joy by pursuing joy, but you can get it from taking on the practices that produce joy.

The Priorities that Produce Joy

I. Worship Becomes First For Me

“... for we are [the ones] who worship in the Spirit of God “

Philippians 3:3

“We are called to an everlasting preoccupation with God.”

A.W. Tozer

"25 Whom have I in heaven but You? And besides You, I desire nothing on earth.

26 My flesh and my heart may fail, But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."

Let me give you a starter list, just three verses, that if you were to come to live aware of them every day and fully believed them; they could cause non-stop worship in you every day:

“O Lord God! You have made the heavens and earth by your great power. Nothing is too hard for you!”

“The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”

1 “I love You, LORD, my strength.

2 The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my savior,

My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge;

My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

3 I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised,

And I am saved from my enemies.”

“Then I will go to the altar of God, To God my exceeding joy; And I shall praise You ..., O God, my God.”

Psalm 43:4 (NASB)

II. Jesus Becomes Everything To Me

“… for we are [the ones] who … glory in Christ Jesus “

Philippians 3:3b

“These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full.”

John 15:11 (NASB)

III. My Flesh Becomes Nothing To Me

“… for we are [the ones] who … put no confidence in the flesh, “

Philippians 3:3c
