Broken for me: His Life Exchanged for Yours, Pastor David Welch

April 10, 2022

The Idea:

Take the exchange of His life for yours –

and live it out every day of your life.

“I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.

His Life Exchanged for Yours Means

1. He has taken the full penalty for your sin, once for all

10 By this will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

11 Every priest stands daily ministering and offering time after time the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins;

12 but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, sat down at the right hand of God,

14 For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified.

2. He has taken death for you, in your place

… Jesus, because of the suffering of death … so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.

but now has been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel

25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies,

26 and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?”

3. He has rendered powerless the devil

… He [Jesus] too shared in their humanity so that by his death He might destroy him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil—

… The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.

Now the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, he who accuses them before our God day and night.

Revelation 12:10 (NASB)

4. He has given you the power to overcome any hard thing

31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? 33 Who will bring a charge against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies; 34 who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us.
