Unshakeable (part 3): Faith Tested, Pastor David Welch

17 By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was offering up his only begotten son; 18 it was he to whom it was said, “In Isaac your descendants shall be called.” 19 He considered that God is able to raise people even from the dead, from which he also received him back as a type.

Hebrews 11:17-19 (NASB1995)

1 "Now it came about after these things, that God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 2 He said, “Take now your son, your only son, whom you love, Isaac, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I will tell you.” 3 So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him and Isaac his son; and he split wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him."

Genesis 22:1-3 (NASB1995)

The Idea:

There is a journey in an unshakeable faith –

it looks like this: test, trust, sacrifice, blessed.

Making faith Unshakeable

1. Test

“By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was offering up his only begotten son;”

Hebrews 11:17 (NASB1995)

2. Trust

“So Abraham rose early in the morning … and went to the place … God had told him.”

 Genesis 22:3 (NASB1995)

3. Sacrifice

“Then they came to the place of which God had told him; and Abraham built the altar there and arranged the wood, and bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood.”

Genesis 22:9 (NASB1995)

31 “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? “

4. Blessed

"… indeed I will greatly bless you …

because you have obeyed My voice.”

Genesis 22:17-18 (NASB1995)

20 "Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God.

21 He was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever he promises.

22 And because of Abraham’s faith, God counted him as righteous.

23 And when God counted him as righteous, it wasn’t just for Abraham’s benefit. It was recorded

24 for our benefit, too, assuring us that God will also count us as righteous if we believe in him, the one who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.

25 He was handed over to die because of our sins, and he was raised to life to make us right with God."
