You Belong: You Are Called to Live, Pastor David Welch

February 27, 2022

" … so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other."

The Idea:

When you come to Christ, there is an essential shift in your identity.

As a Christ-follower, God sees you in community. You should see you in community.

You Are Called to Live …

I. As a part of the Body

"4 Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function,

5 so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other."

"He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything."

"22 … and gave Him as head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all."

II. As a part of the Bride

"7 “Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready.”

8 It was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.

9 Then he said to me, “Write, ‘Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.’ ” And he said to me, “These are true words of God.” "

III. As a part of the Community of the New Covenant

"31 “Behold, days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah,

32 not like the covenant which I made with their fathers in the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt …

33 … “I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

34 … “for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.” "

"15 And the Holy Spirit also testifies to us; for after saying,

16 “This is the covenant which I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord: I will put My laws upon their hearts, and write them on their mind,”

He then says,

17 “And their sins and their lawless deeds I will no longer remember.” ”

"When He said, “A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. But whatever is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to disappear."

"9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

12 Keep your behavior excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing in which they slander you as evildoers, they may because of your good deeds, as they observe them, glorify God in the day of visitation."
