Becoming (part 7): Kindness and Goodness, Pastor David Welch

November 20, 2022

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.

35 But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. 36 Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.

The Idea:

God’s kindness is powerful – so powerful that it can make you kind.

Kindness and Goodness in You

I. See That God is Incredibly Kind

" … for He is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. "

Luke 6:35 (ESV)

“21 This I recall to my mind, Therefore I have hope.

22 The LORD’S lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail.

23 They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.

24 “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I have hope in Him.”

25 The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, To the person who seeks Him.”

II. Let His Kindnesses Affect You

“… for He is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. “

Luke 6:35 (ESV)

III. Become Kind Like Him

“Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful. “

Luke 6:36 (ESV)

“32 Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.

1 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children;

2 and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.”
