Get Joy (part 2): Pursue Peace with Everyone, Pastor David Welch

Updated: Jan 17

January 15, 2023

8 To sum up, all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kindhearted, and humble in spirit; 9 not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead; for you were called for the very purpose that you might inherit a blessing. 10 For, “THE ONE WHO DESIRES LIFE, TO LOVE AND SEE GOOD DAYS, MUST KEEP HIS TONGUE FROM EVIL AND HIS LIPS FROM SPEAKING DECEIT. 11 “HE MUST TURN AWAY FROM EVIL AND DO GOOD; HE MUST SEEK PEACE AND PURSUE IT. “

1 Peter 3:8–12 (NASB1995)

The Idea:

The second pursuit that brings deep, meaningful, healing joy in you is pursuing peace in every relationship

How to grow into a person of peace

I. Retrain a Heart of Peace

“To sum up, all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kindhearted, and humble in spirit; “

1 Peter 3:8 (NASB1995)

“Salt is good; but if the salt becomes unsalty, with what will you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.”

Mark 9:50 (NASB1995)

“But there is joy for those who work to bring peace.”

Proverbs 12:20 (NIrV)

II. Regain the Power of Reaction

“not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead; “

1 Peter 3:9 (NASB1995)

III. Reclaim the Life You’re Promised

9b “… for you were called for the very purpose that you might inherit a blessing. “

11b “ … HE MUST SEEK PEACE AND PURSUE IT.”

1 Peter 3:9b-11 (NASB1995)
