Get Joy (part 4): Seven Joy Pursuits Conclusion, Pastor David Welch

January 29, 2023

7 Pursuits to Raise Your Level of Joy:

  1. Get deeply connected to Christ as the sourceof your life.

  2. Pursue peace in every possible relationship

  3. Get free from chronic complaint and comparison

  4. Get rid of selfish anger

  5. Get gratitude

The Idea:

There is a principle that unites the last two pursuits, and really all of them.

If you want a life of fully developing joy, then you must learn to live a life that is NOT about you.

Seven Joy Pursuits

6. Get Kindness and Generosity Ingrained in You

“3 Do not let kindness and truth leave you; Bind them around your neck,

Write them on the tablet of your heart.

4 So you will find favor and good repute In the sight of God and man.”

Proverbs 3:3-4 (NASB1995)

7. Find Out Why You Were Created – and then live in it.

“For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever!”

“Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”

The Ultimate Purpose of Your Life

“For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son,”

God Has a Purpose for You – 3 Insights

God has a purpose for you –

and it’s not about you

"I am the Lord; that is My name! I will not give My glory to another,"

Isaiah 42:8 (NASB1995)

God has a purpose for you –

and it’s about what He does IN you

“And behold, some are last who will be first and some are first who will be last.”

Luke 13:30 (NASB1995)

“For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son,”

God has a purpose for you –

and He will do it through you

“For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work among you will complete it by the day of Christ Jesus”

Philippians 1:6 (NASB1995)

The Unifying Principle

Find a way to practice joy every day

“Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things again is no trouble to me, and it is a safeguard for you.”

Philippians 3:1 (NASB1995)

“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice!”

Philippians 4:4 (NASB1995)
