Story Focus: In John 21:1-19, we discover how Peter and several other disciples were out fishing on the Sea of Galilee without catching a single fish. Suddenly, they saw a man standing on the shore, who told them to try the other side of the boat. Sure enough: more fish than the net could carry! Peter immediately knew it was Jesus, and he took off toward the shore. After breakfast on the beach, Jesus showed humility again. Instead of being angry at Peter, He chose love and forgiveness.

Bottom Line: Put others first by making things right. One of the most important ways we can show humility is by the way we treat others when we aren’t getting along with them. As kids are learning how to navigate friendships, we pray they also think about the ways they can work through arguments and hurt to make things right with others.

Key Question: When is it hard to make things right? Preteens are really just starting to experience and understand the nuances of relationships with their friends and family. They’re beginning to see how their actions impact those relationships. Arguments will happen, and sometimes it will be really hard to show humility and make things right. We pray that preteens will take their cue from Jesus and discover how they can work to restore the hurt relationships in their own lives.
