Word of Encouragement - God's Ways Are Higher

A Word of Encouragement from Candy McLaughlin, Connections Ministry Director

I love Fall and part of the reason is that I enjoy college football. I have started following one of our message boards this season and I sit back and am amazed at how many armchair coaches are out there and can find fault with any play of the game. I wonder how people can enjoy the game when they dissect every play. How can you enjoy something and disagree with so much at the same time? (this does not apply to the coaches, it’s their job) It’s to the point that I don’t even want to get on any of the threads because it’s all complaining and attacking others who don’t agree with you.

It hit me this week that this is just a taste of how I treat God at times. I think I know best how to fix a problem and grumble because God’s provision didn’t meet my expectations. And I’m really good at giving Him advice on what I think would work better. I am so grateful our Lord is kind, gracious, and forgiving. He doesn’t give up on me even in my times of ungratefulness.

Moving forward through this football season, I intend to spend less time on the message board and more time being grateful for all that God has done for me. Even when it comes in a different way than I wanted.

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts” Isaiah 55:8-9.
